postgraduate scholarships: The Caledonian Research Foundation

The Caledonian Research Foundation supports and encourages independent research in Scotland, mainly in the Biomedical Sciences. The Foundation provides funding for postgraduate scholarships which are awarded through the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland. There is no preference for subject in awarding the scholarships, and at least one award each year is made in a non-scientific discipline.

The scholarships are offered to academically outstanding candidates starting MPhil/PhD programmes at any University in Scotland. The awards are tenable for three years and will not normally be made for a lesser period.

The scholarships cover tuition fees, maintenance allowance, research and travel allowance.


Eligibility
Applicants must be graduates of a Scottish University with a First Class Honours degree. Students in their final year of an undergraduate degree who are expected to obtain a First-Class Honours degree may apply, withdrawing if they fail to do so. Applicants who are in receipt of a Government-funded Research Studentship, Research Council award or comparable scholarship will not be considered.


Application Procedure
Candidates must be nominated by a member of academic staff and must submit their applications to the Carnegie Trust by 15 March.
