Bachelor in International Game Architecture & Design - NHTV Breda, Netherlands
New program from NHTV – International Hogeschool Breda
Bachelor in International Game Architecture and Design
Admission requirements
The Game industry has an urgent need for high-quality specialists. When you enter the labor market, you will see that employers are not so much interested in degrees, but in demonstrable results. That is why they select job applicants on the basis of their portfolio. The construction of a personal portfolio, an exhaustive overview of your accomplishments, therefore assumes a key position in your studies. Projects carried out in the last two years of the program, are particularly important in this respect. Consequently we are committed to allowing only eligible and talented students to enter the program. This will also benefit you, as you will be surrounded by inspiring fellow-students. Based on these two arguments, both specializations apply admission tests. The admission tests consist of five segments, namely:
A capability test;
A study method and motivation test;
A practice assessment;
A portfolio composed by the student;
An interview with reference to the aforesaid elements.
The department of International Game Architecture and Design applies an intake restriction of 45 students for programming and 45 students for visual art.
Admission requirements for foreign students
Secondary school (e.g. Abitur/ Atrium/ Avgångsbetyg från Gymnasieskola/ COU) or secondary vocational education.
If you are a non-native speaker of English, you are required to show your proficiency in English through a TOEFL test (minimum score 550 paper based or 213 computer –based) or IELTS test (minimum score 6.0).
Costs International Game Architecture and Design
In addition to the nationally set tuition fee (€ 1496,- in the academic year 2005-2006), you should take into account the costs of textbooks, readers, the introduction program and the field trip. These additional expenses run to some 600 euros every year. Furthermore, you will need a laptop to participate in the e-learning environment and the Game Lab. This laptop has to meet a number of specifications. Given that computer equipment quickly becomes outdated, the specifications for the laptop will be announced later in the academic year.
Your Future
How do you create a unique game concept? What does it take for a game to become a commercial success? Important factors are contents, design, graphics, storyline and audio. In this program we will train your creativity and your technological and commercial skills, so that you will know how to make choices as a programmer or a visual artist in the development of games.
As a graduate in International Game Architecture and Design you will be equipped to enter a variety of programmer and visual artist related careers. In addition to the regular positions within the (console-based) game industry there are opportunities in the field of:
Downloadable games
Webgames
Mobile & wireless games
You will also be qualified to take up a position within the broader field of ICT. Alternative careers for programmers can be found in the context of:
Companies involved in Virtual Reality
Companies which visualise data and have a need for creative technicians
Simulations (such as driving simulations)
Companies developing products for medical applicants
The development of user interfaces
Alternative opportunities for visual artists include:
