*Project Abstract*
Traumatic dental injuries are very common in children. Such trauma may have
a range of social and psychological consequences. This innovative project
will use both quantitative and qualitative approaches aimed at;
understanding the social and psychological impact of dental trauma from the
child´s perspective and gain insight into the child and parent´s experiences
of treatment decision-making. It will provide an exciting opportunity to
engage in interdisciplinary research aimed at bridging the gap between
social science and clinical disciplines. The project is part of the
Childhood and Youth in Oral Health Research Group, a novel multidisciplinary
group which focuses on child-centred research incorporating perspectives and
methods from paediatric dentistry, sociology, dental public health,
psychology and orthodontics. The project will be supervised by Dr Sarah
Baker, a Chartered Health Psychologist and Dr Helen Rodd, Reader in
Paediatric Dentistry. Applicants should have (or expect to obtain) a first
or upper second class degree in Psychology. An MSc in a relevant subject
would be an advantage.
