UK: PhD Studentship in Enzyme Technology at Institute for Cell and Molecular Biosciences, Newcastle University.

DTI/Unilever-funded three year Ph.D studentship in Enzyme Technology
A three year DTI-funded Ph.D studentship is available in the
Laboratory of Professor Harry Gilbert in the Institute for Cell and Molecular
Biosciences, Newcastle University. The project, which is in collaboration
with Unilever, will focus on developing novel recombinant enzymes for
use in a number of industrial processes including the detergent
industry. The student will employ a combination of rational design, forced
protein evolution and module swapping to generate novel enzymes whose
stability and catalytic properties will be extensively analyzed both in
vitro and within an industrial context. The studentship will provide the
successful applicant with experience in molecular biology, enzymology,
structural biology and in the design of biocatalysts for a variety of
industrial processes. Although not formally a CASE studentship, the
student will have the opportunity to work at Unilever and will receive a
stipend of £14,000 per year.
