UK: BBSRC CASE Studentship leading to PhD in Plant Biochemistry/Physiology

Institute of Molecular Plant Sciences

A novel herbicide, "Oxaziclomefone" (OAC), blocks cell expansion in
grasses without immediately affecting cell division or turgor pressure.
Its mode of action is unknown but clearly distinct from those of all
other herbicides. OAC may also be a valuable tool in fundamental studies of
the mechanism of plant growth. The project will attempt to discover, in
biochemical/physiological terms, how OAC decreases the extensibility of
the growing plant cell wall.

Start date: as soon as possible. Duration: 4 years. Based in Edinburgh,
with some time working at Bayer CropScience, Frankfurt.

Candidates should have a good Honours degree in plant science,
biochemistry or a related discipline.

Please send a CV, naming two referees, to Prof. S.C. Fry, Rutherford
Bldg, The King`s Bldgs, Edinburgh EH9 3JH (S.Fry@ed.ac.uk) by 9 November
2006.
